The World Young Chef Young Waiter competition aims to promote hospitality as a career and profession of choice around the world, by showcasing and celebrating the best young talent. The YCYW England competition is open to chefs and waiters from all backgrounds working within England under the age of 26 with at least three years of employment within the hospitality profession.
The winners will be announced following a two-day final live at The International Convention Centre in Birmingham from 18 - 19 July. Judging will be led by key figures in the hospitality industry including head chef judge Adam Handling and head waiter judge Simon King. They will be supported by judges including Jason Atherton, Clare Smyth MBE, Theo Randall, Claude Bosi, Emily Roux, Jeff Galvin, Andy Downton, Johanna Wimmer and other big names in hospitality.
Sean Valentine FIH, the Managing Director of World Young Chef Young Waiter, is understandably excited for the upcoming competition. “We have come such a long way in such a short space of time by developing a UK competition into the global Olympics of hospitality”. This global expansion will see Young Chef Young Waiter Maldives, Cayman Islands and Ireland announced soon. Competitors from other regions in the UK are encouraged to enter YCYW England, and should their region launch, they will be transferred to the relevant location.
The Young Chef Young Waiter competition was established in 1979 in the UK, and is currently organised by The Nth Degree Global in partnership with UKHospitality and the Restaurant Association. The competition has a prestigious history, with many previous winners have gone on to achieve great success within hospitality. Previous winners and judges include some of the industry’s most recognisable names, including Marcus Wareing, John Torode, Raymond Blanc OBE, Heston Blumenthal OBE and Fred Sirieix.
