Sushisamba’s sky high Liverpool Street restaurant has been a raging success since opening its doors in 2012 and they have now debuted their second site located in the Grade II listed Market Building in the heart of Covent Garden.
The new restaurant has a very different aesthetic. The East Opera Terrace was originally home to a number of glasshouses where exotic plants were sold, so, in honour of its history, they have featured a “live” ceiling installation which includes South American and Japanese plants. The quirky decor continues with lanterns framing the theatre-style open kitchen, bespoke light installation above the sushi bar, as well as an incredible red marble counter. The site boasts a 128-cover dining room, a sushi bar with 14 counter seats, a private dining room and a large terrace overlooking the Covent Garden Piazza.
Dishes on the new Covent Garden menu include pork belly with butterscotch miso, scallops with vanilla, jalapeño and mango, a Kobe bun with pickled onions and horseradish mayonnaise and octopus with peppers. A Samba Covent Garden roll will also be available, fusing tuna, salmon, yellowtail, white fish and avocado.
Patricia Gonzales, Head of Global Brand – who also have branches in Miami, Las Vegas and Amsterdam – told the Standard: “The energy of Covent Garden and its international appeal make it a natural fit for Sushisamba’s second London location”.
