This month we have chosen Iberica, Canary Wharf
Award-winning Spanish tapas restaurant Iberica opened its second London restaurant on 21 November at Cabot Square.
At the helm of this Canary Wharf newcomer is Executive Chef Nacho Manzano, chef patron of 2 Michelin starred Casa Marcial in Asturias. The day-to-day running of the restaurant is done by Manzano’s protégé and his former development chef, Cesar Garcia.
The menu features Spanish classics like Croquetas de Jamon and three types of Jamon Iberico, carved to order, along with more experimental dishes like Beetroot and Red Fruit Gazpacho with Cheese Ice Cream or Tempura of Spring Onion with Aioli and Soy Sauce. The extensive Spanish wine list features several wines which are only available at Iberica outside of Spain.
Restaurant Property’s Jason Grant who acquired the site on behalf of Iberica says, "A dramatic space, with high ceilings and two large balcony areas looking over the main dining area which add different dimensions to the restaurant as well as private dining. The theatre of the open kitchen and the bar add further to the exciting atmosphere of Iberica!"

This month we have chosen Bread Street Kitchen
Opening on the 26th September, this long awaited new addition to Gordon Ramsay's restaurant empire has caused quite a stir. The restaurant is an all-day casual dining concept open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, set in a large and dramatic warehouse space with reclaimed furniture and vintage armchairs. It also includes a wine balcony stretching along the wall above the kitchen and a wood burning oven.
The menu is split into 3 sections: Raw Bar, Hot Kitchen and Wood Stone. The Raw Bar caters for the lighter meal with dishes like ceviche of sea bass with grapefruit, chilli and lime. The Hot Kitchen section is filled with hearty, wholesome dishes with a great range of fish and meat including venison, grouse and halibut. This month we have chosen The 10 Cases
University pals, chef Will Palmer and restaurant manager Ian Campbell are opening their first venture in the centre of Covent Garden on September 12th. After university, Ian went on to become an accomplished chef with experience as a pastry chef at the Michelin star La Riebaudiere in France and more recently as a Sommelier for The Conran Group whereas Will managed the boutique Berkeley Square Hotel in Bristol.
The 10 Cases is an unpretentious, European bistro-like concept based around a wine list of 10 white wines and 10 red wines and 10 cases of each. Once the 10 cases run out the wine is changed so that there is always something new. The wine accompanies a menu of three starters, three mains and three tarts for desserts that change every day, along with a salad and a 'signature dish that don't, all immaculately put together by ex Coq D'argent chef Juette Shallow.
Restaurant Property acted on behalf of The 10 Cases when acquiring the site at 16 Endell Street.

This month we have chosen Roganic
Roganic is Simon Rogan’s new restaurant on Blandford Street, Marylebone. After the huge success of his outstanding L’Enclume restaurant in Cumbria which has held a Michelin star since 2005, five rosettes from the AA Restaurant Guide, 8/10 in the Good Food Guide and has been described as “destination dining at its very best” by Square Meal (who presented it the BMW Square Meal Award for Best UK Restaurant in 2010), Simon desired a presence in the South of England where he has continued his intense passion for organic, local and foraged light food.
Restaurant Property acted for The Portman Estate with whom Rogan signed a two year lease and refers to Roganic as “an extended pop-up”. The same hallmark food style as L’Enclume is evident in Roganic’s creative, seasonal, inventive menus. The head chef duties are being shared between Ben Spalding (previously at L’Autre Pied and Rhodes W1); and Simon Rogan, spending a couple of days each week at Roganic, while maintaining his presence in Cumbria.
There is a ten-course menu at lunch and dinner at £80 per person, and a five-course lunch menu at £40 per person. These menus evolve with the seasonality of ingredients.

This month we have chosen Pollen Street Social
Pollen Street Social is the first independent restaurant from Jason Atherton, who left Maze restaurant in May 2010 to fulfil his long held ambition.
As the name suggests, the restaurant is located on Pollen Street, close to Hanover Square. It represents a new, more informal restaurant style for Jason, where his much acclaimed cuisine will be served in a stylish and unstuffy environment.
Jason says: “Pollen Street Social can be summed up by its name. I want it to be a social restaurant where the surroundings and atmosphere are as vibrant as the food. People will have the freedom of choice to have what they want, even if it’s just a dessert, and wear what they want, regardless of whether they’ve come for a special occasion or just a drink and some tapas.”
The menu offers dishes that Jason describes as “having one foot in the past and the other in the future”, where classical techniques underpin his creativity and influences picked up during his time working in some of the most innovative kitchens of the world. The à la carte menu is divided into four sections: hot, cold, meat and fish.

This month we have chosen Spuntino
Russell Norman and Richard Beatty, the pair behind the permanently packed Polpo and Polpetto, will launch Spuntino, their third restaurant, in March 2011.
Spuntino (which means ‘snack’ in Italian) follows the small plates theme of their first two restaurants but takes its influences from down-town New York. Think classic mac & cheese, truffled egg toast, shoestring fries, soft-shell crab with Tabasco aioli and meatball sliders. The drinks list includes revived prohibition cocktails such as the Sazerac and the Bronx.
Spuntino’s interior and exterior, as with Polpo, has been designed by Russell who has enlisted veteran Soho metal worker Bela Pasztor to create wire cages for carbon filament light bulbs which will hang over a pewter-topped bar. The room features uncovered Victorian glazed brick and mosaic walls. Large rusted tin tiles, salvaged from a New York warehouse, cover the high ceiling and reclaimed classic diner stools line the bar. The 25-seat side street Soho site evokes nineteenth century machine-age Brooklyn.
“I’ve been thrilled by the tremendous excitement that has greeted Polpo. It’s clear that London has an appetite for fun dining. I hope everyone will find Spuntino just as exciting, and maybe a little surprising,” says Russell Norman.

This month we have chosen Opera Tavern
The team behind the ever-popular Salt Yard and Dehesa tapas bars have unveiled a new sister site in Covent Garden.
Set over two floors in a former pub, the new venue serves charcuterie, cheese and Italian and Spanish tapas, as well as a wide range of wines and sherries.
A charcoal grill in the bar allows locals and theatre-goers to pop in for mini Iberico pork burgers and pinchos morunos (marinated pork skewers).
Time out says: "It's low-lit, looks on-trend and is immediately appealing; it's partly inspired by the vibe and approach of places such Mario Batali's Bar Jamón in New York - but it's firmly rooted in London. It's also equally accomplished as a bar and restaurant - a tricky mix to get right." - read the full article here
We say: "Try the Iberico burger! Truly fantastic"

This month we have chosen Cocochan
Located on James Street, within the St Christopher’s Place state just north of Oxford Street, Cocochan which opened in February has already made its mark on this established restaurant quarter.
Cocochan is a Pan-Asian concept that draws upon the best of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Indian cuisines to provide an eclectic menu that enables diners to eat in a family or sharing style Tapas or, if they so chose, more traditional dining. The menu is divided into small dishes and main dishes. Of the dishes that I tried, all are exceptional but if I had to pick one, it would be the duck salad with water melon and hoisin.
The restaurant is divided into two areas of different style and the cocktail bar in the basement is open from 5pm each day.
As well as an exquisite menu, the service in this restaurant far exceeds anything yet seen in St Christopher’s Place. We highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.
